Protestors are expected to gather outside a piggery near Dublin this Saturday, following the release of distressing footage alleging serious animal welfare concerns.

The footage, published by advocacy group Farm Transparency Project (FTP), has prompted public outcry and renewed calls for greater oversight of intensive animal farming in South Australia. It shows pigs living among piles of decaying carcasses, cannibalistic behaviour and horrific signs of untreated wounds and infections.

The protest has been organised by the Animal Justice Party SA, which is calling on the State Government to shut down the operation, prosecute those responsible, and ensure the rescue and treatment of surviving animals.

The piggery in question has been named as Andgar Piggery. According to FTP, the footage was obtained after a public complaint triggered an investigation by the organisation.

The Animal Justice Party SA has called for a coordinated response from multiple agencies, including the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA), the RSPCA, and the Department for Environment and Water (DEW).

“The South Australian government cannot turn a blind eye to what has been alleged here and to the sickening and truly horrific footage,” Animal Justice Party spokesperson, Frankie Bray, said. “We demand an urgent and fully transparent investigation into Andgar Piggery, an independent review into the state’s pig farming industry, and the creation of an Independent Office for Animal Welfare to ensure real accountability. This is a matter of animal welfare, potentially criminal acts, human health and public trust.”

Party members and concerned members of the public will gather alongside the Farm Transparency Project at a community rally this Saturday to demand urgent action and accountability.
