Hundreds evacuated after late-night chemical spill west of Brisbane - ABC News

Hundreds of factory workers have been evacuated and at least five hospitalised after a chemical spill at an Ipswich workplace, west of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to JBS Dinmore after a liquid ammonia spill occurred at the facility about 12:30am.

Almost 900 people were evacuated and 17 have been assessed by paramedics.

Five people were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

In a statement, JBS Dinmore said emergency services remained onsite until deeming it safe to hand back to the business at about 7:10am.

"The safety and wellbeing of our team members is our highest priority, and we are providing ongoing support to those involved," the statement said.

"The site was evacuated, and affected team members received medical assessment and care as a precaution."

Investigations into the incident are underway, JBS Dinmore said.

JBS Dinmore is one of the largest employers in the Ipswich region. 

It is also one of the largest beef processing plants in the southern hemisphere.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has been contacted for comment.
