Interview with Department of Agriculture whistleblower David Plumb
If not for corruption in the Department of Agriculture, we wouldn't be two years into a legal battle with a slaughterhouse.
We sat down with David Plumb, a former On-Plant Veterinarian (OPV) who worked in export slaughterhouses on behalf of the department, about his experiences – from being pressured to lie about his training, to witnessing calves being killed while conscious and a pig who had been beaten with a shovel, his development of PTSD, and the department’s adversarial attitude towards him when he sought help.
His story gives further context to next week’s High Court case, the final hearing in a long fight to share the reality of animal slaughter, which began when a senior Department of Agriculture employee tipped off the Game Meats Company slaughterhouse about evidence of illegal cruelty we’d captured in their northern-Victorian facility.
