Tuenissen 3 baby calves 1107

Tuennissen Ranch has thousands of wooden hutches used to house calves for 3 months. These hutches have no bedding, are not cleaned during that time and the calves are locked in there without being able to move one step.  January has an average low temp of 38 degrees F.  The calves are removed from their mothers within hours of birth.  This is the California dairy industry.  From edepot.wur.nl/119435 the article says "Every year, Teunissen rears more than 20,000 calves from birth to four months for 15 local producers."
