Background: Nichols Poultry Pty Ltd (ABN 81 092 929 890) is a vertically integrated chicken growing and slaughter operation founded in 1988, based at 380 Chapel Road, Sassafras, north-west Tasmania. The business was founded by Rob Nichols and acquired by ASX-listed TasFoods Limited (ASX: TFL) in 2016 for A$12.55 million. TasFoods was itself founded in 2015 with major shareholder and co-founder Jan Cameron (co-founder of Kathmandu).
Operations: The Sassafras site includes a chicken slaughterhouse, hatchery, feed mill, and approximately 91 hectares of farmland. The operation killed approximately 45,000 birds per week at the time of acquisition in 2016. TasFoods acquired Nichols Hatchery as a separate entity in 2023.
Current status: TasFoods entered voluntary administration on 12 March 2026, with KPMG Australia. The outcome of the administration process had not been publicly resolved as of 2 June 2026.
