Little Big Dairy
The Chesworth family runs an 800 to 1,000 Holstein cow dairy farm on approximately 240 hectares of Macquarie River flats near Dubbo. They produce around 8 million to over 11 million litres of milk annually, averaging about 24,000 litres per day.
Cows are fed a high-protein diet including 8kg of dairy meal daily (a triticale/barley/pellet mix), supplemented by corn silage purchased from local farmers.
They operate a high stocking rate with separate dry and fresh herds, milking cows for 180-200 days per lactation.
The farm milks cows three times a day to maintain high milk flow and quality, achieving an average lactation yield of 10,500 to 11,000 litres per cow over 305 days. [As of June 2025]
Their system is intensive, pasture-based with significant supplementary feeding.
