Castletown Kennels- breeder
- Final Breeding/Racing Date: July 31, 2026
- Reason: The facility ceased commercial breeding and training operations following the nationwide ban on profit-based greyhound racing in New Zealand.
- Current Site Status: The property was not sold off to a traditional buyer. Instead, its entire purpose has been fundamentally shifted to handle the immediate fallout of the greyhound racing ban. Because the facility has a large setup capable of housing up to 80 dogs at once, it was completely repurposed as a transition and boarding kennel to support nationwide rehoming efforts. The Greyhound Transition Agency (funded via the TAB) pays operators a daily boarding fee of $36 per dog to house and care for the remaining greyhounds while they wait for forever homes. The caretakers intend to permanently keep some of the more complex or "niggly" greyhounds that might struggle to find traditional family environments.
