Strathayr (Richmond)

Mass sheep death at the Strathayr sheep property in Richmond, Tasmania.

Strathayr is a large turf company. Adjacent to their lawn company they also run sheep. In one paddock many sheep are left to die and rot.

This incident in July 2023 was reported to NRE Biosecurity. Whilst they were swift to address the issue with the property owner, there was no prosecution pursued, despite evidence of protracted deaths. It took the property owner two weeks and further deaths before they cleaned the paddock up.

Sheep ear tags identified many as coming from Camelford (Midlands of TAS) or Strathayr. Many appeared to have had their eartags removed, whether before or after death cannot be determined.
