Handheld Summary - Farrowing

Footage from farrowing sheds where mother pigs give birth and nurse their piglets for up to six weeks inside tiny, metal cages. Stillborn piglets are common, and many were filmed struggling to draw breath, or weakly searching for their mother's milk. The smallest of the litter, the runts, would likely be killed in the following days by having their head bashed against the concrete floor, a horrific act which is both legal and standard practice across Australia.
