Handheld Summary - Group housing

Footage from the group housing section at Finniss Park piggery, where sows are kept between pregnancies and where weaned piglets live before being sent to a grower piggery. In 'eco sheds,' sows who are between pregnancies live in deep mud and waste, with only a concrete slab where they can escape it. Many have scratches and wounds on their bodies, signs of both the prolonged intensive confinement of the cages and of fighting, which is common in the crowded group housing sheds.
