Thomas Foods International - Wallangarra Abattoir (closed)
Record as at 2 June 2026.
The Wallangarra abattoir is a closed small stock slaughterhouse at Longs Lane, Wallangarra, on the Queensland and New South Wales border. Opened around 2005, it was at the time described as Australia's largest mutton works, killing sheep, lambs and goats, with Halal mutton primarily exported to Arab countries. Thomas Foods International acquired the facility in 2010 as part of its purchase of Country Fresh. The slaughterhouse had capacity to kill up to 15,250 animals per week and employed up to 260 workers. After a series of temporary closures, TFI permanently closed the facility on 8 July 2016, citing animal shortages and difficult trading conditions.
In 2018 the company confirmed it would not reopen.
