Thomas Foods International - Lobethal Abattoir

The Lobethal abattoir is a small stock slaughterhouse at 40 Ridge Road, Lobethal, in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, registered as an export-licensed facility (establishment number 866) under South Australian EPA Licence 14299.

Here they kill sheep and lambs and was acquired by T&R Pastoral, now Thomas Foods International, in 2004, making it one of the company's longest-held sites.

After the 2018 fire at TFI's Murray Bridge slaughterhouse, production at Lobethal was increased to absorb displaced capacity. By-products are sent to TFI's Northern Heights rendering facility at Murray Bridge. The site is regulated by the South Australian EPA for odour and wastewater compliance. Lobethal is one of TFI's small stock slaughterhouses, which together kill over 160,000 animals per week.

AMIEU states: LOBETHAL is a domestic processor of both beef and lamb. It is a medium size plant employing around 180 people. An enterprise agreement provides the tally and conditions of employment for the slaughterers and boners, the labourers work under the Federal Award.
