Thomas Foods International - Bourke Abattoir
Record as at 25 May 2026.
The Bourke abattoir is a goat and small stock slaughterhouse located at Bourke, far western New South Wales, operated by Thomas Foods International Pty Ltd (TFI) under NSW EPA Environment Protection Licence 20918.
TFI acquired the facility in 2021, and recommissioned the facility in September 2022, initially killing between 1,200 and 1,500 goats per day, primarily sourced from the wild goat population of far western NSW and surrounding regions.
The facility is also licensed for sheep and lambs. In 2024 TFI announced a $60 million capital works program to expand capacity to 6,000 head per day, including a new cold store, refrigeration infrastructure, electrical upgrades and a skin storage and processing facility.
The United States Department of Agriculture listed the facility in March 2023, enabling export of killed animals to the United States.
TFI kills over 160,000 head of small stock per week across its facilities at Bourke, Lobethal, Stawell and Tamworth combined.
