Thomas Foods International - Murray Bridge Redering Plant
Record as at 2 June 2026.
The Northern Heights site at Lagoon Road, Murray Bridge, South Australia, is now a rendering and wastewater facility, registered as establishment number 533 under South Australian EPA Licence 11649.
It was originally Thomas Foods International's Murray Bridge slaughterhouse, acquired by T&R Pastoral, now TFI, in 1999. On 3 January 2018 a fire destroyed the meat processing line in one of the largest industrial fires in South Australian history, displacing around 1,000 to 2,000 workers. The slaughterhouse was not rebuilt here; TFI built a replacement slaughterhouse at Pallamana.
As of this record, only the rendering plant, skin sheds and wastewater treatment plant operate at Lagoon Road, processing by-products from TFI's Pallamana and Lobethal slaughterhouses close to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The site has a sustained odour problem affecting the surrounding community.
